| Oriental Press to Invest $24 Million on its New Printing Complex
Oriental Press, one of the oldest printing presses in Bahrain has announced that it will invest a whopping $24 million in plant and machinery for its new printing complex at the Bahrain International Investment Park. The company further announced that an investment of $4 million will be separately pumped into its existing plant at Jebel Ali in Dubai. The announcement was made at a press conference, which was attended by Majeed Al Zeera, the President of the Oriental Group Holding. Over 75 Managers and Executives from the group’s companies in Bahrain, Dubai, and United Kingdom also formed a part of the event.
“For more than 50 years Oriental Press has set the pace for the printing industry in the region as we were pioneers in the introduction of many services & products to this part of the world,” explains Al Zeera. “Today more than 75 percent of the production is exported to international markets mostly in Europe. With 100 million books and hundreds of millions of security printed products exported to 47 countries around the world, it is a clear indication of the acceptance of the standard of our products and services.”
Oriental Press was established on 31st July 1952. Today, the company has grown to become one of the leading printing presses in the Middle East, by offering a comprehensive printing service in Bahrain and later on to other parts of the Gulf and the Middle East. The press currently offers a range of full colour printing services for, security printing, book printing, commercial printing, packaging and additional printing services. The press has also spread its wings to European markets by catering to customised commercial and book print jobs of the publishing industry in UK, Europe and other parts of the world.
Speaking exclusively to ME Printer, Ghazi Ahmed, the Director of Board Development at Oriental Press says, “Oriental Press is one of the oldest printing presses in Bahrain. It was established 55 years ago. Currently we only produce commercial and security printing, but now we have decided to venture into digital printing as well. Also, we print books, stamps, brochures, and so on, and we do packaging, as well. We have a list of clients, such as banks and post offices. We are currently planning for expansion. In February 2008, we will inaugurate our new premises, which will be four times larger than the current one and will be located at the industrial area in Bahrain. We will acquire new machineries, and plan to venture into other fields of printing.” The press expects 150 new jobs to be created for the new project.
The press’ four purpose-built plants cover an area of 250000 sq. ft. equipped with the latest technology in all areas of services from pre-press to finishing. Besides a wide range of full colour products such as books, computer stationery, postage stamps, cheques, brochures, and calendars, the press also caters to special processes such as foil stamping, blind embossing, cold and U.V. spot varnishing, and matt and glossy lamination.
